I run into people everyday that are beyond tired of watching the US news outlets in their endless quest to ‘entertain.’ May I suggest BBC World Service? For years — the only balanced print media around anymore has been Financial Times. Want to make balanced decisions — based on balanced inputs? Look no further. Dial into BBC World. They sprinkle news and interesting on air ‘articles’ that actually are entertaining and what?… have educational value? What next??
Additionally, it’s pretty liberating to ditch the TV’s and iPad/iPhone boondoggle and not be chained to someone’s latest version of a ‘smart’ device. BBC World doesn’t need to be ‘hand held’, ‘stared at’ or ‘keystroked’ to have it come across. It’s aural. It flew in via ether long before Wi-Fi was conceived. Stodgy?… Not very hip, huh? But it does offer the freedom to move about and do something else if you choose. Kinda’ like multi-tasking, but the analogue version of it.
I did. I tried listening to PBS but it just puts my feet to sleep. Too bland? Too something?? Mal je ne sais quoi? Not sure. I always get listening fatigue after about 10 minutes and I can never put my finger on why…
Makes me wonder if radio is being drastically undervalued as a credible, unchained medium.
Well… Some radio…
