Dear Editor,
I’ve been editing a rough cut the last day or so. A couple of people that I got notes from said there were areas in the cut that seemed slow. So I did a cut that took everything out — boiled it down to its essence. Yeah, it got into the story more quickly and tracked perfectly. What I decided was, that the content that was engineered out really held a lot of the humanity. Longer. Slower. The new cut, to my mind, went cold. Too clinical. Always go with your instincts — I’m adding content back in. Good-bye old cut. Hello, Antonioni. It just feels better. And isn’t that, ultimately, what it’s all about. You’ll really never be able to please everyone — so please yourself. And I tried the other way… No tears.
