Christopher Wool’s show the Guggenheim opened Friday. I think, oddly enough, he moved from NYC to Marfa, TX. He got there a bit late though. Donald Judd bought up most of the town. This is pretty cinematic considering they didn’t have cinema in the 16th century. Look at the expression the painter assumes. It is like cinema in the sense that the painter wasn’t present when it occurred but thoroughly conveys the sense of dread. He is approximating.
