The script is smart and deals with the situation in a very grown-up way (as opposed to a simpler shoot-em-up action approach), BUT it does have thriller elements, especially in the second half. We need an ending that satisfies both. At some point Caroline and Mike have to become active rather than reactive. Rather than run from the bad guys (or run to people who can protect them), they need to take the fight to the bad guys. I don’t mean running and gunning — it can be smart — but it has to be a deliberate move.  Luke and the rebels take their tiny fighters out to face the Death Star. That’s why we cheer for them.
