Michelangelo Antonioni is a photographer too. He famously told Rothko “Your paintings are like my films–they’re about nothing…with precision.”
I agree that Rothko’s paintings are about nothing. I would disagree about Antonioni’s films. It is, nonetheless, an interesting juxtaposition. I’ve never met anyone, ever, that said: Gosh, if I could only paint like Mark Rothko.
