A new directors cut from the Stanley Kubrick Archives was evidently just released today. This is the Director’s Cut; that includes the director’s commentary on the challenges of making the movie and the difficulties encountered in trying to make the film look/feel realistic.
Kubrick discusses: the set location in LA, the anamorphic lenses that were built for low light, reflective realism and the SAG actors that worked tirelessly; take after take, to bring this film to TV audiences.
Keir Dullea discusses Kubrick’s fascination with the final shoe print and how Kubrick saw that as being the most enduring image, historically, from the film.
This film was made on the heels of Kubrick’s: 2001: A Space Odyssey and was shot in Kodak 3521 film stock.
