We’ve been tracking and doing some mastering the last two nights. One track is lightly in the can. It’s unbelievable what drums, bass and a slight amount of effects channel does… It sounds absolutely killer. Directly on the mood. Very bank. There isn’t any doubt in my mind this is art. Better than the ‘art’ that is foisted on people today visually (nod.nod. wink). Real art isn’t a system and will never have its origins from a system. You can ‘t plant it and have it grow — like a bean stalk. Call it what you like. It’s origins are unknowable and unfathomable. (That’s why they call it art). Most of the stuff you see today is more about control than the actual art. Not who makes it but who hypes it/controls it. Sad indeed.
I wonder (not really) what Richard Avedon would, think? Literal vs abstract? I would think of him as a literalista from what I’ve seem. I would think of the mastering as being abstract. Great to be in two places at once. But the twain shan’t meet. Not around here. Now, we’ve brushed up against religion. Time to shut it all down for the night — tomorrow’s a new day…
