Antonioni
I remember getting into my old Land Rover on 30 July 2007 and turning on BBC World to hear that Michaelangelo Antonioni had passed. I loved his films. I was reminiscing with a friend in Dallas last week about having seen ‘Zabriski Point’ in college with friends. I had no idee what the film was about. I think it started there and probably never stopped. We’re watching a film of his tonight entitled ‘Red Desert.’ In an interview he said that he didn’t think of himself as a painter — he did say that when he began using color film that you had to look for the rhythm of color. He said that you can’t find that in a painting — but I disagree. But then again, he really was the master of the long take.
