“The work was inspiring, as was the figure cut by the artist. He was the kind of figure Frank represented to another generation. Frank and Tuggener, says Magnaguagno, “are the only auteurs who in their day acted first and foremost as their own clients. Who relied on their own lives and their own creative potential.” Had Tuggener not been so hard to get along with, he might be known today as one of the great photographers of the 1930’s and 1940’s.
