I’ve been told to think of this as my night job. To which I always ask: ‘Why do I need a night job?’ ‘Because we think there’s a film here’, they say. It’s in that spirit I’ve been slogging back through the first 40 pages to send out for coverage on Sunday. First 40 to get to the last 70. Besides, in the Matthieu Pigasse interview with FT, does he not say that, and I paraphrase: ‘sleeping is for pussies?’ He’s not talking just waking up early — he’s talking staying up late and waking up early. Both sides of the equation. It’s REALLY hard to take the other side of his view. But it is nice when Saturdays roll around. I know, now, why screenwriters in LA don’t answer emails or calls over the weekend.
There’s a new Eastwood film due out in June I heard yesterday. I don’t think he got his undergrad degree at Harvard but he usually finds the ‘sweet spot’ between artistry and commercialism in his films. I bet he doesn’t sleep much either.
