I’m working on a doco now; from it’s origins I’d always thought about the filming and sequencing for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrick referred to those sequences as ‘non-submersible units’. I get it. It’s more difficult to put into practise in a doco setting that in a scripted setting. I think. But it should be quite rewarding if I can pull it off. The compartmentalization is cool, because, it’s very ‘locked in’. The difficulty is making those pieces tie in an overall sense.
I’m also posting some comments that I had from a post last night. I need to find someone that can help me re-do my blog, technically. The woman that set it up really is more of a bureaucrat — so I have no idea how to respond to questions that I get from viewers or any way to display comments. Sort of sucks; but will give it an overhaul soon.. Thanks for the comments — always appreciated.
ps. I love the way that Kubrick is always in a suit and tie. You would expect John Huston to turn up in African hunting attire. Now, compare and contrast to — say — someone working at — say — Apple. Black turtleneck (or just black t-shirt), jeans and trainers. I’ll take the crazy formality offered by Kubrick. The Apple guys tend to look like they should work at a GAP-like place. Where ‘uniforms’ are dictated. Charlie Kaufman goes into a diatribe — he mentions the banality of everything today being overhyped (the NEW iPad AIR. It’s 10 grams lighter…). and over marketed: saying something like — ‘those are the same factories that produce ‘Pop-Tarts’ and “iPads’… I had to laugh. As gullible as we all are and as much as we all want to be liked (if having something cool(?) affords that)– eventually crap marketing stops working.
Money is a surrogate for utility.
Full stop.
