This is pretty cinematic considering they didn’t have cinema in the 16th century. Look at the expression the painter assumes. It is like cinema in the sense that the painter wasn’t present when it occurred but thoroughly conveys the sense of dread. He is approximating. Maybe under these circumstances — this is where the Bill Evans ban on approximations wins out. Evidently, Ivan the terrible, in a fit of rage, mortally wounds his son Ivan. (Ivan, The Dying). Weren’t these the guys that started a coffee chain in Seattle? Post-grunge? Or was it a hamburger chain…?
